What to do in the December garden by Sue Dunn:

Guest Speaker:
Jo Canning spoke about Designing the Woodland Garden.  She provided a wealth of information on how to visualize your design, copy from nature, among other ideas. Garden Club members were provided with take home copies of lists of bulbs and shrubs for the woodland, as well as a handout on designing strategies.

Door and Raffle Prizes:
We had the lovely Camelia plant as well as a few other items including a selection of garden related books.

January Meeting Summary

A Garden Club member brought in a tool for identification - a narrow row hoe.

Guest Speaker:
Sue Dunn and Vargha Webb talked about pruning and offered great demonstrations on fruit trees and shrubs.  Garden Club members were provided with a take home copy of a pruning guide.

Door and Raffle Prizes:
We had three lovely ferns as well as a few other items - plant identification sticks, gloves, a Des Kennedy book, a stained glass garden decoration.

The December spread was free and included apple cider as well as a wide variety of treats.

Those who braved the fog had a bountiful array of door prizes and raffle prizes available to be won including:

• The beautiful wreath created in the demonstration,
• an evergreen swag,
• 4 winter berry plants,
• gloves,
• gardening books,
• sliding door screen saver, and
• bird feeder

Walter provided a comprehensive listing of plants that provide fall color and texture. In addition he provided information on how to properly transplant shrubs and trees as well as answered many questions.

The prizes included a large witch hazel shrub plus 2 $25 gift certificates donated by Green Thumb Nursery.

Brenda Jager
“Bees in the Garden”
Brenda's presentation was very informative. She provided a summary of the different types of bees, their life cycle, how they are beneficial in the garden, and how to encourage bee nesting.

Raffle Prizes:
Many prizes were won including a jar of Brenda's Bees honey provided by Brenda Jager.
