Our next meeting is Thursday November 2nd. Ken Gurr from GaLLT (Gabriola Land and Trails Trust) will be speaking about the Nature Stewards program, and will discuss practical ways gardeners can help conserve native habitat and make gardens more wildlife/biodiversity friendly.
Michelle Shaw will introduce us to the possibilities of eating homegrown foods year-round and
the benefits of doing so. You will learn about the hydroponic method of growing year-round
food with a brief look at a simplified aquaponic unit. The benefits and concepts of each method
will be explained and the care required for each system will be demonstrated.
We will ask the questions; What is stopping us from eating year-round, how can we protect the environment and still enjoy fresh food? Did you know lettuce is the number one “waste” food when purchased at the grocery store?
